Increase of 10% for work at weekends, allowance for work on 6 days a week, paid holiday on the employee’s birthday and “Supportive Personal Time Off”.
The Board of Directors of HNH Hospitality S.p.A., among the leading independent hotel operators in Italy for the 4- and 5-star hotel and resort segment, approved an important change in the economic conditions applied to their workers. The modification to the National Collective Labor Agreement was agreed on with the Trade Unions by drawing up a level 2 supplemental contract.
HNH Hospitality is the first company in the sector to provide 10% wage increases for work on Saturdays and Sundays, a gross allowance of €25.00 a week for those who perform their work hours over 6 days (instead of 5 out of 7) and a paid holiday on the employee’s birthday. In addition, there is also the so-called “Supportive Personal Time Off”, which gives employees in a difficult personal or family situation extra hours off, which have been anonymously and voluntarily donated by colleagues who will receive a further contribution of an equal amount.
In detail, the resolution establishes that employees are given a 10% wage increase for every hour they work on Saturday. This increase is calculated on the aggregate national base pay in effect in the month. While for each hour of work on Sunday and in addition to what is set forth by art. 85 of the National Collective Labor Agreement in force, workers will be given a 10% wage increase calculated on the aggregate national base pay in effect in the month.
Secondly, a flat allowance of €25.00 has been introduced for carrying out one’s work over 6 days a week instead of five. This allowance will be distributed for all Monday to Sunday weeks, with 5 days out of 7 effectively worked, regardless of the day off. The allowance will be given together with the pay for each month with reference to all the weeks that were finished in that month.
Finally, in addition to the possibility of taking advantage of the measure called “Supportive Personal Time Off” – that is the possibility for employees in a difficult personal or family situation to have extra hours off, anonymously and voluntarily donated by colleagues – HNH Hospitality has introduced further innovation in the sector, which is a paid holiday on the employee’s birthday. If the date coincides with a day off, the worker can use the “Birthday Holiday” measure on the day before or after their birthday.
“HNH Hospitality has chosen to introduce, in an extremely positive phase for the hotel sector and from the viewpoint of talent attraction & retention, a concrete and innovative measure that aims to improve the work conditions of their staff, which is over 900 employees –commented Costabile Giordano, Chief Human Resources Officer of the HNH Hospitality Group – “The approved measures aim to respond effectively to issues that emerged during active listening activities carried out with the HNH community over time, that is the request to value and gratify work at the weekend more, and also paying particular attention to free time and the work-life balance”.
The measure is experimental and therefore temporary. As such, it will be enforced from 1 May 2023 to 31 October 2023. If the measure is effective, HNH Hospitality intends to extend its duration in relation to added value and sustainability in the long term.
